Decorating to create a cohesive look in your home
Do you wonder why the spaces in your home feel disjointed? If your home decor is not cohesive, it will never feel "right". We accumulate and inherit pieces of furniture and art over the years and it may be difficult to bring it all together and make it look like it was planned. How do you make things go together when nothing matches?
One way to create a cohesive look in your home is to select a whole house color palette.
To begin with, choose a neutral color that will be the base for your whole home. This doesn't mean that you have to paint the entire house the same color but that you should keep the colors similar.

Next, add 3 to 5 accent colors that you will use consistently throughout. One of these should be your dominant accent color.
If your dominant accent color is navy blue, it may be in a rug in the living room, towels in the bath, an accent wall in the master. When the same color is repeated throughout your home, it creates a sense of cohesion.
Your other accent colors should also be repeated throughout but to a lesser degree.
Not certain which colors to select? Begin with what you have. If you gather all the pieces you have collected and loved over the years, you will likely find a trend in color or style. This is your starting point. Your wardrobe is another area where your preferred colors stand out. Some people look to nature for inspiration on colors that go together. Still unsure where to go next?
